Caring, Helpful, Active Residents of Meriwether Homes

C.H.A.R.M.S. was founded by Ms. Eula Redding to help the school aged children in the old Meriwether Homes community with homework assignments. What began at the kitchen table of a one bedroom apartment in 1997 has blossomed into a thriving program housed today in a four room apartment provided by the Griffin Housing Authority.  The after school program is now located at the Fairmont Homes Community.

In addition to Ms. Redding, there is a full time assistant, Mrs. June Henley and other volunteers. Children in grades first through fifth receive homework tutoring four days a week for two hours a day. They are given instructions on the three R’s as well as lessons on simple courtesy and personal hygiene.

Two of the former students of the programs are educators: one is student teaching and the other is a second year kindergarten teacher in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Through donations from individuals, Griffin Housing Authority, Southern Crescent Technical College, family, and friends, the program provides the necessary supplies for all children coming through the program.
