Shoes for Griffin provide shoes for needy school children

You can help buy shoes for needy children.

Field Foot and Ankle Clinic is conducting the Shoes for Griffin drive. These shoes will be received by children in the Back Pack Food for Kids Program, which provides supplemental food over the weekend for those at risk of insufficient food while not in school.

There are 250 children in the program. They are from the six elementary schools that are currently being served with the program.

“We will need a new pair of athletic shoes for each child,” said Joseph Walker, who coordinates the program.

To help, contact Field Foot and Ankle Clinic at 770-228-6644, and sign up for specific size and gender, then go buy the shoes and bring them to the clinic, at 730 South 8th St., Griffin, by Dec. 9. Volunteers will put the shoes in backpacks of elementary school students who participate in the Back Pack Food for Kids Program.

The goal is to place a pair of new shoes in each child’s backpack for Christmas as the children leave on the last day of school before break, Walker explained last year.

Shoes for Griffin is also accepting cash and check donations, which can be dropped off, or mailed to Spalding Collaborative, P.O. Box 701, Griffin, GA 30224. Please put “Shoes for Griffin” in the memo line on the check.
