While the annual Back to School Bash held by the Spalding Collaborative has been canceled, there are still others holding similar events this month.
Regina Abbott, of the Spalding Collaborative, said the Back to School Bash was not being held this year due to lack of funding. She said there are many other organizations and churches that are still holding their own back to school events.
These events include:
• Kids “R” First Learning Center will host a Back to School Bash, Friday, July 17, from 2 to 6 p.m., at its new location, 1552 Flynt St. It includes free food, school supplies, water slides, outdoor activities as well as an open house, infant enrollment, new enrollment applications for the learning center.
• Truett’s Grill, 1455 North Expressway, will hold its second annual Back to School Bash, Saturday, July 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. The event includes back to school information, as well as the Spalding County Fire Safety House, the DARE program, Junior Deputy program, bounce houses, and free school supplies for the first 300 children in attendance. There will be a balloon drop at 8 p.m., with one lucky winner receiving free Chick-fil-A for a year (one free chicken sandwich a week for 52 weeks) in one of the balloons. Also 10 percent of sales during that time will go to the DARE and Junior Deputy programs.
• The Back to School Explosion will be July 26 at City Park, Pavilions 1 and 2. The event begins at
5 p.m., and will feature free food, drinks, hair cuts, hair styles and free school supplies. There will a
raffle for a free tablet from Ben’s Hobby Computers. DJ POOH will be providing music and the Rev.
Zachery Holmes emcee. Brother Abdul Salaam and Griffin Lodge Nov. 317 along with Roderick
Vinson aka “Chef Mixx” will be on the grill. Businesses and volunteers interested in participating
